In coffee producing countries, harsh gender inequality, poverty and abuse are rampant. The Femenino project was founded in 2004, by uniting over 460 women producers to exclusively grow, harvest, process and market their coffee. This giant step towards empowerment for women was so successful that The Café Femenino Foundation now provides grants to select programs and projects that enhance the lives of women and their families in coffee growing communities around the world.
